Tongue scraping is an Ayurvedic self-care ritual for a healthy mouth and oral microbiome. Also known as Jihwa Prakshalana, tongue scraping is a gentle practice that cleanses the tongue and is a daily ritual recommended for general health and wellbeing.
Ayurveda considers the tongue as an indicator of gut imbalances or digestive problems. Having a white coating on the tongue signals the presence of Ama (digestive toxins) inside the body. Tongue scraping has been traditionally used to:
- Remove bacteria and toxins from the tongue
- Maintain oral hygiene for fresh breath and improved taste
- Induce salivary secretions for digestion and gut health

Directions
Ideally, use your tongue scraper every day after brushing your teeth. Stick out your tongue, place the centre of the scraper at the back of the tongue Firmly and gently glide the scraper forward, cleaning off unwanted matter Repeat 3-5 times Rinse well and dry after use Store in a dry area (handles down in a glass jar works well!)
Cleaning
Gentle hand wash is recommended, using 1 teaspoon of lemon juice + 1 teaspoon of salt to get back the shine! This product is made from 100% pure uncoated copper, which preserves its antibacterial properties; therefore, it will tarnish and discolour over time. This is completely normal and will not impact the effectiveness or safety of the product.
